Extended MWA Survey Progress and Monitoring

CI: – Dr. Natasha Hurley-Walker

Aims: The Murchison Widefield Array has recently been upgraded to double its resolution on the sky. We are currently observing an eXtended version of the GaLactic and Extragalactic All-sky MWA (GLEAM-X) survey with this new configuration. We wish to implement a web-based progress monitor for the survey so that both survey team members and interested external astronomers can observe the processing progress.

Significance: The original survey has provided astronomers across the world with a wealth of information on colliding galaxy clusters, young and dying radio galaxies, and the energetics of our Milky Way galaxy. With this extension we will push back to higher redshifts, disentangle the complex morphology of unusual sources found in GLEAM, and better explore the polarised universe. Efficient processing of this survey will be enabled by better visualisation of the tens of thousands of observations which comprise it.

Outcomes: More efficient use of Pawsey resources due to better visualisations of current progress and issues; software which could be repurposed for future MWA and even SKA surveys; visual guide for external stakeholders interested in using GLEAM-X for their science.
